October 2026
I live in a suburb of Chicago with my wife, Samantha, and daughter, Violet. Violet is now four, and remains funny, weird, and delightful.
After several years as CTO at Packback, I’ve gone independent. I run a small practice doing technical diligence for private equity and venture firms and fractional CTO work for companies that need senior technical leadership.
I’m also proud to announce Color/Math, a multidisciplinary design firm I’ve started with Jessica Tenuta. You can see more of what we’re up to at colormath.com. Much of what I do still lives where AI meets real organizations, and I still believe we have the opportunity to make people’s lives a little better.
Meditation continues to be the habit that has changed my life most. Lately I’ve been spending a lot of time with Rob Burbea’s teachings and the Madhyamaka tradition, and I’m still surprised by how much there is to find in sitting still.
Over the past year I’ve also been taking my health seriously. I’m lifting five days a week in a basement gym built from cheap, second-hand pieces, and have somehow become a collector of vintage cast-iron weight plates. Next up is easing back into running, a decade or so after my last marathon.
Outside of that, I’m trying my hand at growing a small Midwest native tree nursery, and I still solve logic puzzles daily.
